Storm damage to the roof of the container homes on Puikman in Castricum occurred last night. The fire brigade was called around 11.15 pm due to loose material. It is still unclear what consequences the damage will have for residents. The container homes on the Puikman are controversial, residents have been complaining about leaks, mold and cold for a long time.
Parts of the roof flew off due to the strong winds of storm Isha. The parts of the houses ended up next to the building and in the parking lot.
At the end of the evening the fire brigade was called. “The fire brigade made everything safe and then handed it over to the manager who was present. He will take care of it further,” reports a spokesperson for the North Holland Safety Region.
The landlord of the container homes, FlexWonen NH, can no longer be reached by telephone after 12.30 pm and has not yet responded.
‘To cry’
NH previously wrote about the problematic living conditions in the container homes. Several residents then said that the situation was ‘to cry about’. The containers are said to be leaking, full of mold and poorly insulated. The residents of the flexible housing are mainly emergency seekers and status holders.
The container homes have been there for about two years now. Residents told NH in November last year that the unhealthy conditions literally make them sick. A UN special rapporteur visited the homes a month ago and concluded that absolutely not satisfactory.
It is still unclear whether last night’s storm damage is due to the condition of the building and whether this has caused new problems for the residents. In any case, there were still loose building materials on the roof this morning. There was also a layer of water on the woodwork.
