Storm Franklin gets in the way of roofers, wind blows over ladders

If you think you’ve had it all with storms Dunley and Eunice, storm Franklin will also get over it. Roofers have their hands full after Friday, but due to the persistent bad weather, it is not easy to repair things. Because due to the strong wind, the ladder does not stand.

The storms of recent days have already resulted in a record number of damage reports with a national amount of half a billion euros. That all has to be repaired, including by roofing company Geraeds from Breda.

“At the moment it is very busy, we drive from customer to customer,” says Mario Geraeds. Most people call because the tiles have flown off the roof. Due to Monday’s rain, many people also have flooding. “Actually, we need to get to every customer urgently.”

During a job in Zevenbergschenhoek, Mario tries to climb up his ladder, but it is unstoppable and is easily blown over. Geraeds has to cancel all his customers on Monday afternoon. “That is not possible now, it is too dangerous with that strong wind.”

He is expected to be able to go up on the roof again on Tuesday, because then the weather will be less turbulent. “I think we’ll have to go up and down the ladder for another month before we have all the damaged roofs repaired.”
