Stolen rental bus got stuck in Amstelveen after a police chase through the region

A stolen rental bus got stuck in Amstelveen last Friday after a chase through the region. The driver has been arrested and will be prosecuted for theft and dangerous driving.

The Amstelveen police reported this Instagram.

The renter had someone else pick up the bus from the rental company and agreed that that person would park the bus in a parking lot on the Van der Madeweg in Duivendrecht.

On the run

When the tenant arrives at the parking lot around 4:45 p.m., he sees an unknown man sitting in the bus. He talks to the man, and in the altercation that follows, the occupant says he is from the police. If the renter questions that story, the occupant presses the accelerator and speeds away.

The man goes after it in his own van and calls the police in the meantime. Near Ouderkerk aan de Amstel, the Amsterdam police spot the two vans and give chase.

Flashing lights and siren

Soon afterwards, the Amstelveen police also join the chase. At the Mr. Groen van Prinstererlaan they see the suspect. Because the suspect drives anything but carefully, the police turn on flashing lights and sirens to warn other traffic.

The suspect gives in at the bus stop on Keizer Karelweg. After he puts the van on the side of the road, he is picked up and taken to the station. He will soon have to appear in court for stealing the bus and his dangerous driving behavior.
