NVIDIA is said to be working on an open source AI agent platform that could enable companies to use autonomous AI systems for work tasks.
• NVIDIA is probably planning an open source solution for AI agents
• Companies have probably already been contacted about possible partnerships
• Strengthening the role in the AI infrastructure market
NVIDIA plans to launch an open source AI agent platform, WIRED reports, citing people familiar with the company’s plans. This enables companies to use AI agents to complete tasks for their employees. According to the sources, companies could access the platform regardless of whether their products run on NVIDIA chips.
Potential partners have probably already been contacted
The semiconductor company is said to have already presented the product to various providers of business software. According to reports, NVIDIA has started discussions with companies such as Salesforce, Cisco, Google, Adobe and CrowdStrike, among others, to explore possible collaborations. However, it is still unclear whether these contacts have already resulted in formal partnerships. Partners will likely receive free early access to the platform in exchange for their project contributions, according to WIRED’s sources. As part of the platform, NVIDIA plans to offer security and privacy features. NVIDIA and its potential partners did not immediately respond to a request for comment, according to WIRED.
“Claws” are receiving increasing attention
According to WIRED, NVIDIA’s interest in AI agents is growing at a time when so-called “claws” are receiving increasing attention. These are open source AI programs that run directly on the user’s computer and can carry out several consecutive tasks there. Such tools are often considered self-learning because they are designed to independently improve their performance over time.
At the beginning of the year, an AI agent called OpenClaw in particular generated a lot of interest in Silicon Valley. The system could work independently on a PC and relieve users of various work tasks. In February it was announced that OpenClaw founder Peter Steinberger was switching to OpenAI and that the open source bot would be integrated into a foundation.
Companies like OpenAI and Anthropic have significantly improved the reliability of their AI models in recent years. However, their chatbots often still required manual intervention. Special AI agents or “claws”, on the other hand, are designed to carry out several work steps largely independently.
Focus on open source AI models
For NVIDIA, NemoClaw appears to be part of a strategy to target enterprise software providers with additional security mechanisms for AI agents, WIRED reports. At the same time, the project is related to a stronger focus on open source AI models. This development is part of a broader approach with which NVIDIA wants to secure its leading role in the field of AI infrastructure as large AI laboratories increasingly develop their own chips.
In recent months, the company has presented, among other things, basic models for AI agents. “NVIDIA is expanding the universe of open models and today released new open models, data and tools to advance AI across industries,” the company said in a January 5 blog post. “These models – the NVIDIA Nemotron family for agentic AI, the NVIDIA Cosmos platform for physical AI, the new NVIDIA Alpamayo family for autonomous vehicle development, NVIDIA Isaac GR00T for robotics and NVIDIA Clara for biomedicine – will give companies the tools to develop real-world AI systems.”
