In fact, nobody does it wholeheartedly, but the Bossche city council helps the theater aan de Parade out of the fire. After a sharp discussion, a majority agreed on Thursday with the proposal to grant the millions extra that the ailing theater needs.

The new theater should have become a ‘bustling, cultural hotspot’, but so far it has been politically mainly on a financial disappointment. The new construction cost 83 million euros, while 62.7 million euros was estimated. And the exploitation turned out not to be hoped, so that the theater on the Parade could go bankrupt after more than a year.

‘The challenge now lies with the Theater aan de Parade’
That is why there is now a plan to keep the theater up with extra millions. The city council agreed to this on Thursday evening: 22 of the thirty councilors present voted in favor.

“With this we also want to provide certainty to the theater and all its employees,” said Marcel Ploegmakers of the CDA. “The challenge now lies with the Theater on the Parade. The business side needs to be developed more, but we have faith in that.”

The theater required an annual subsidy of 530,000 euros, a one -off investment of 1 million euros and postponing the reimbursement of debts of 2.25 million euros.
