Steven Creyelman (Vlaams Belang): “My brother’s activities are treason” | Domestic

Frank Creyelman, ex-MP and ex-senator for Vlaams Belang, was bribed by Chinese spies for three years to influence policy in Beijing’s favor, according to the ‘Financial Times’, ‘Le Monde’ and ‘Der Spiegel’. The Conference of Presidents of the House asks State Security for an “urgent analysis” of the possible role of his brother and MP Steven Creyelman.

“The news that came to light last Friday was as much news for me as it was for the rest of Flanders. I unequivocally distance myself from my brother’s activities and am deeply disappointed by them,” the MP now responds. “Let one thing be clear: neither I nor the party are in any way involved in this history. My brother’s activities are nothing short of treason and in no way belong in a nationalist party like ours.”

To trust

Steven Creyelman is “confident” that the investigation will fully exonerate him and will not oppose it in any way. “After all, this can and will show that my brother’s shameful actions are limited only to his figure.”

Eyes were also turned on him because of his parliamentary question about ‘politically inspired violence against the Chinese government’ from Hong Kong. A month earlier, according to ‘Le Monde’, his brother Frank had informed his Chinese contact that an intervention on the matter was imminent.

Steven Creyelman, on the other hand, uses positions taken by Vlaams Belang in Parliament and resolutions that he himself co-signed with regard to China.
