The Phoenix Suns are located in a rebuild after the departures of Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal. Steve Nash is supposed to lead the franchise from the desert state into a new era with its expertise.

On Monday, Suns owner Mat Ishbia announced Xthat Steve Nash was discontinued as a “senior advisor” for the coming season. Nash’s last NBA station was the office of head coach at the Brooklyn Nets, where he had a record of 94-67 for over three years before being released at the end of the 2022/23 season.

Nash, who was included in the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2018, spent many of his best years as a player at the Sun. The jersey with its number 13 hangs under the hall roof, and he also won two MVP titles with the Suns. Now he should help the franchise as a consultant.

“Steve Nash was an incredible player and exactly what the Phoenix Suns stand for,” said Ishbia in the announcement. “His fighting spirit, his hardness and its winning mentality have shaped our organization. I am very pleased that Steve now officially joins the Suns as a senior advisor and will help us to shape the future of the team for many years.”

The 51-year-old will also be part of the NBA reporting at Amazon Prime in the coming season and was co-moderator of the “Mind the Game” podcast last year at the side of LeBron James. It is unclear whether his new role in the Sun will influence these activities.
