The 39-year-old Steve Colpaert has been working as an assistant coach at Zulte Waregem since this year and succeeded the dismissed Sven Vandenbroeck at the beginning of this month. He was initially appointed for the two remaining matches in the regular competition, against AA Gent (2-0 defeat) and Charleroi (1-0 win). Even though he could not prevent Essevee from being sentenced to the Relegation Play-offs with a 3 out of 6, he retains the confidence to keep the club in the highest division. “The club decided this after an evaluation of the work in recent weeks. Essevee confirms the belief that the technical staff and the playing group can jointly achieve the stated goal: an extended stay in 1A,” X said.
The 46-year-old Vandenbroeck had been working at the Gaverbeek since June 2024. At the time, he signed a contract for an indefinite period and immediately achieved promotion to the Jupiler Pro League in his first season at the club. After a tentative start in the highest division, Essevee had an excellent autumn, with which the team even came close to the top six. However, after that the results went downhill again. Since the end of October, only three wins have been won, meaning Zulte Waregem finished in thirteenth place in the regular competition.
