Stefanie van der Gragt header goal helps Lionesses to a difficult victory at European Championships

The Dutch national team has won the second group match at the European Championship. Thanks to a goal by Stefanie van der Gragt from Heerhugowaard, the Netherlands won 3-2 against Portugal.

The Netherlands started the game badly. Portugal had two great chances, one of which led to a goal that was disallowed for offside. The team of national coach Mark Parsons did take the lead through Damaris Egurrola, who headed in after seven minutes from a corner from Ajax player Sherida Spitse.

The Orange squad dominated the match against the physical Portuguese and Stefanie van der Gragt doubled the score after more than fifteen minutes. The central defender headed a deflected shot against the ropes. A Portuguese defender kicked her in the head at the chance, after which the Heerhugowaardse lay for some time after the 2-0.

The 2017 European champion had little to fear for Portugal, but unfortunately ran into a penalty. Carole da Silva Costa outwitted Daphne van Domselaar from Oudkarspel and thus made the connecting goal: 2-1. After the break Diana Silva equalized on behalf of Portugal. Daniëlle van de Donk gave the Orange again the lead with a nice bang from outside the sixteen.

Thanks to the 3-2 victory, the Orange is leading in Group C. Just like Sweden, the Lionesses have four points, but have a better goal difference. On Sunday at 6:00 PM, the Orange squad will play its last group match against Switzerland.
