Nuremberg’s sports director Stefan Ustorf was hoping for a home win against Adler Mannheim. But then he experienced the “worst” refereeing performance of his ice hockey career.

After the bitter home defeat of the Nuremberg Ice Tigers in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL) against Adler Mannheim, sports director Stefan Ustorf harshly criticized the referees. “That’s the worst thing I’ve seen in 30 years of professional ice hockey,” said the former national team captain at MagentaSport, “that’s an out-of-question refereeing performance.”

The referees didn’t allow Jeremy McKenna’s possible winning goal in the 59th, the game went into extra time with the score at 1-1, Kristian Reichel scored the Eagles to victory (61st).

“Not giving this goal almost borders on cheating,” rumbled Ustorf. The referees “don’t belong in our league, it’s a disgrace to try to control a game like that and make decisions like that throughout the entire game.”

Ustorf wants to accept a possible penalty from the DEL: “Should I let myself be bent over the table even further? That doesn’t make any difference to us as a team. Wipe your mouth. It continues on Tuesday. I’m waiting for my call from the league.”
