Stefan Ortega: Decision between FC Bayern and Arminia Bielefeld

Bielefeld keeper

“It’s not up to us. Tego is welcome to come to my office tomorrow and sign the contract,” Bielefeld’s sporting director Samir Arabi announced last weekend with a view to the open contract situation of Arminia keeper Stefan Ortega. The 29-year-old’s working paper expires at the end of the season. As the “image“-Zeitung reports that the goalkeeper’s decision falls solely between East Westphalia and FC Bayern.

Accordingly, the record champions have targeted Ortega as the future number 2 behind Manuel Neuer. An early extension of the national keeper’s contract at Säbener Straße beyond 2023 is considered very likely, but behind the 35-year-old the ranks are thinning: The working paper of Sven Ulreich, who has suffered a meniscus injury, is dated June 30th, the future of Alexander Nübel ( 25), who still has a contract in Munich until 2025, but is still on loan to AS Monaco until 2023, is still unclear.

According to reports, FC Bayern was already interested in Ortega’s services last summer, but refrained from a transfer in view of the exit clause of 5 million euros. Whether the former “lion” Ortega in the best goalkeeper age decides to return to Munich and a supposedly lucrative contract, but probably – at least for the time being – little or hardly any playing time, is an open question – according to the report, Arminia offers him a four-year Contract plus salary increase.

Arminia sports director Arabi on possible Ortega departure: “We’re not that naïve”

On the Alm, however, there are no great illusions about being able to keep the only active professional in the top 20 club record players alongside the outgoing attacker Klos with an attractive offer from Bayern:

“It’s understandable that Stefan at his age might still want to earn one or two euros in the future,” said Arabi. One is therefore also “on the market in case we are not so naïve that we don’t get the contract with Stefan extended in the end.”
