Medi Bayreuth started the new season of the Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) with a win against the Fraport Skyliners. Bayreuth won on Friday evening (September 30th, 2022) at the start of the first matchday after a strong final phase with 83:82 after extra time.
The guests from Frankfurt were in the lead for almost the entire season, three and a half minutes before the end the lead was still nine points. But Bayreuth came back into the game: As Caliph Young the Franks 22 seconds before the end with a putback dunk took the lead, the game seemed already decided. But Laurynas Beliauskas saved them skyliners with a three to 75:75 in the final second into overtime.
There, the Bayreuthers regained the lead, which they didn’t give up this time. Among other things met Brandon Childress in the overtime, the American was also the top scorer with 30 points. At Frankfurt, Center Martina’s giving (17 points) was the best thrower.
Berlin with victory against Hamburg
At the start of the season, champion Alba Berlin had already defeated the Hamburg Towers on Wednesday with a narrow margin of 81:78 in a game brought forward from the 2nd matchday. The Berliners will play their second game in Bamberg on Sunday. Hamburg hosts Mitteldeutsche BC for their home debut on Saturday.
