The US film star George Clooney, his wife Amal Clooney and their two children have recently become French citizens. This is confirmed by a document from the Official Journal published at the weekend, which was first available to the French news agency AFP. George Clooney now has dual citizenship (in addition to American), as does Amal Clooney (in addition to British-Lebanese).
The family has been spending a lot of time in France for a long time. “I love French culture and its language, even if I still don’t know it well after 400 days of lessons,” the two-time Oscar winner told radio station RTL.
Adopted home with advantages
The actor raves about his chosen homeland. In 2021 he and his wife bought a winery in Brignoles, a municipality in the Var department. The decision was particularly worthwhile for reasons of the family’s privacy. There are no paparazzi lurking in front of his children’s school. “That’s the most important thing for us,” said the 64-year-old in an interview.
Although the family only spends part of the year in France, this is the place “where we are happiest,” he emphasized.
Instead of traveling by private jet like many stars, he often uses the train. “I take the train between London and Paris very often. And I take the train from Aix-en-Provence to Paris every two weeks,” reports the actor to “FAS”. When asked whether he is often recognized while traveling, he answers: “Oh, sometimes people say ‘Hello’. They talk to us normally.” But the whole thing is not a problem for the Hollywood star.
