It was just a month ago that Silas Katompa Mvumpa – Silas for short – extended his contract with VfB Stuttgart. But the Swabian striker does not seem to know exactly what his working paper says.
On New Year’s Day 2023, the fans of VfB Stuttgart were able to celebrate again immediately after New Year’s Eve, because their favorite club announced the extension with the courted Silas Katompa Mvumpa, who was committed to the Swabian club for another three years and signed until 2026. What exactly Silas was signing was not known to the attacker, as it now turned out.
Because as “Bild” reports, the 24-year-old was asked by a judge about his net salary during the week at a court hearing about his name forgery, which was uncovered some time ago, and curiously could not answer this question.
“I don’t know. I sign what my advisor puts in front of me,” Silas is said to have said. Amazing statements for a Bundesliga professional, which at the same time give an idea of why the right winger from the Congo allowed one of his former agents to cheat on his name a few years ago.
In the summer of 2021, Silas admitted that his name was not Silas Wamangituka and that he had been the victim of a dubious advisor. This had convinced Silas under high pressure to adopt a pseudo-identity and exploited today’s VfB star. The footballer therefore had no access to accounts or his papers. In addition, Silas was made a year younger.
Silas one of the top earners at VfB Stuttgart
In the meantime everything has been cleared up by the club and grass has grown over the matter, but the 24-year-old had to appear in court last time because he had appealed against the penalty for forging documents because of his forged passport and for having obtained his residence permit by fraud. He was originally supposed to pay a fine of 60 daily rates, which in his case was 48,000 euros.
On Wednesday, according to “Bild”, he is said to have quickly given in and even agreed to a fine of 50,000 euros. The slightly higher sum is even to his advantage: Because the new verdict is no longer based on daily rates, Silas does not get an entry in the federal central register and is therefore not considered a criminal record.
According to the report, Silas has been earning around two million euros a year at VfB since his extension.
