The Wolfsberger AC won the Austrian trophy for the first time in its club history. The ecstasy among the fans was big, too big.
After the greatest success of the club history, the celebration at Wolfsberger AC got out of hand. Fans of the club from Carinthia celebrated the victory in the final of the ÖFB Cup, fired fireworks at the stadium, including rockets. The problem: Some fireworks batteries landed on the stadium roof-and set it on fire because the roof film of the VIP area caught fire.
Around 1,000 people then had to be evacuated. The Wolfsberger AC had invited fans and guests to the VIP area of the stadium, which now had to be protected from the flames while the fire brigade came.
According to the first information, nobody was injured. The emergency services were able to control and extinguish the fire. The affected VIP area was then closed. How high the damage is has not yet been determined.
