A pile of hay and pruning waste was on fire in a meadow in Escharen on Wednesday afternoon. The fire released a lot of smoke. Someone tried to plow the grass with a bulldozer, but that only made the fire worse.
Initially, only the Grave fire brigade responded to the fire, but when the fire got worse, a water truck had to come from Uden. The fire was eventually extinguished with several water trucks and assistance from the bulldozer.
The fire brigade received more help from bystanders who helped with lifting, rolling out and moving equipment and hoses. No one was injured in the fire and the pasture was partially damaged.
