FC St. Pauli acts for a long time – then there is a crazy final phase. The Kiezkickers reward themselves against Borussia Dortmund for a bold appearance.
FC St. Pauli has averted a home bankruptcy at the start of the new Bundesliga season. With a courageous performance, the Kiezkicker won a 3: 3 (0: 1) on Saturday evening against Borussia Dortmund. A later double strike helped.
Serhou Guirassy (35th), Waldemar Anton (67th) and Julian Brandt (74th) had supposedly brought the favorite guests to the winning road with their goals. Until the final phase, only Andreas Hountondji (50th) had entered the goal scorer list for St. Pauli. Shortly before the end, Daniel Sinani (86.) stoked the hopes for a point win with a transformed penalty – which Eric Smith (89.) finally made true.
Already in round one, St. Pauli presented himself equally with the Westphalia. BVB took the lead through Guirassy, Louis Oppie (10th) and twice Hountondji (11th/18th) had previously left out promising opportunities for the home side. Because St. Pauli goalkeeper Nikola Vasilj parried a penalty of Guirassy before the break (39.), the Kiezkicker at the Millerntor at home remained in the game.
In the last third of the game, BVB’s individual class prevailed before BVB defender Filippo Mané caused a penalty and saw the red card. Sinani converted to 2: 3. In the majority, Smith actually rewarded the race from St. Pauli with the equalization.
St. Pauli gave himself a good feeling in front of the derby against city rival Hamburger SV next Friday (8:30 p.m.). The BVB, however, starts the new season with a damper. For the Westphalia, the coming week will be against Union Berlin (5.30 p.m.).
