Four days after the first competitive defeat of the season, SSC Napoli continued their winning streak in the Italian soccer championship.
The Serie A leaders prevailed 2-1 (2-1) against Atalanta Bergamo in the top game and celebrated their ninth league treble in a row. The lead over Bergamo grew to eight points, the new second place is defending champions AC Milan with a 2-1 (1-0) win over Spezia Calcio. Milan are six points behind Napoli.
Ex-Leipzig player Ademola Lookman gave Atalanta the lead with a hand penalty after video evidence (19th). Victor Osimhen (23′) and Eljif Elmas (35′) turned the game around before the break in favor of the guests from Naples, who lost 2-0 at Liverpool in the Champions League last Wednesday.
Milan won through a late dream goal from Olivier Giroud. The French international scored the winning goal with a side kick in the 89th minute, took off his shirt as he celebrated and saw the yellow-red card.
Only a few minutes earlier he had seen the first warning for participating in a pack formation. Theo Hernandez had previously given Milan the lead (21′), while Daniel Maldini equalized for the outsider (59′).
