Sprint queen Lückenkemper receives a special honor

Europe’s sprint queen Gina Lückenkemper has been voted August athlete of the month by around 4,000 athletes sponsored by Sporthilfe.

The double European champion from Munich received by far the most votes (59.9 percent) ahead of canoe world champion Sebastian Brendel and three-time European track cycling champion Emma Hinze.

For Lückenkemper, who won gold in the 100 m and in the sprint relay at the European Championships, it is the first award as “Sportswoman of the Month”.

The last athletes to date were javelin thrower Johannes Vetter in May 2021 and para javelin thrower Mathias Mester in June 2021 to be voted Sports Aid’s Athletes of the Month.
