Spotify is expanding its premium offer by a new feature that is currently available in a beta phase. With the so-called mix mode, users can individually design transitions between songs and adapt playlists more to their own taste.
Individual transitions
The mode can be started in an existing or new playlist via the toolbar. To choose from, there is initially an automatic transition (“car”), which blissfully connects songs. In addition, the music streaming service offers various presets such as “fade” or “rise” that enable different styles. If you want to go deeper, you can edit transitions manually: volume, equalizers and effects can be adapted. Waveeform and beat data help to precisely determine the transition between individual titles.
Mixed mixes can be saved, listened to directly and shared with others. In collaborative playlists there is also the option of shaping transitions together. Spotify’s mix mode can be activated or deactivated at any time.
Private DJ
In addition, the streamer shows at the mixing pace (BPM) and key of the songs. This enables users to better assess which titles are suitable for flowing transitions. Especially electronic genres such as house, techno or trance benefit from this function. The order of the songs also plays a role: this is how the dramaturgy of a playlist can be controlled in a targeted manner, whether for an energetic set or a relaxed end.
Visual adjustments
In addition to the tonal adjustments, Spotify offers new opportunities for visual design. Cover, labels and stickers can be used to visually personalize playlists. This not only adapted the listening experience to the individual taste.
The test phase of the new Mix mode from Spotify started on August 19 and is gradually carried out for premium subscribers: inside. In order to be able to use the feature, the current version of the app is required.
