Growth in a traditional format of sport: ARD guides the soccer specialist Alex Schlüter to the “Sportschau”.
It is still the flagship of public sports reporting: the “Sportschau”. Now the traditional format is getting a new moderator. As the ARD announced on Wednesday, the football expert Alex Schlüter will switch from streaming provider Amazon Prime Video to Sportschau.
The 40-year-old Schlüter has only reported for Prime Video since this season, primarily of the Champions League. Before that, he worked for the Pay TV giant DAZN for eight years, also there in the area of the broadcaster’s football reporting. At the ARD “Sportschau” Schlüter will complement the existing team with Alexander Bommes.
Bommes, on the other hand, wants to concentrate more on its function in the entertainment formats of the public broadcaster in the future, but also remains part of the “Sportschau” team in a reduced form. So far, the 49-year-old moderated football top games, handball games and Olympic Games. Schlüter will probably come into this gap with his expertise.
Next to him, the two moderators Esther Sedlaczek and Lea Wagner, daughter of the former Premier League coach David Wagner, have long-term contracts until 2029. While Sedlaczek reports top games and the men’s football team, Wagner is currently being used in ski jumping and football women. In the summer of 2025 in Switzerland, she should report from the DFB women’s quarters.
Schlüter’s last effort in football was the semi-final second leg between Inter Milan and FC Barcelona (4: 3 n. B.) in the Champions League in early May. He joins the sports show team from August. Before that, he moderates the Wimbledon tennis tournament for his old employer Prime Video.
