Price increases in DAZN always cause trouble to customers. Now the streaming service has a class action lawsuit in the house.
The annoyance of many customers about price increases at DAZN ends up in court – and thousands agree to the lawsuit.
As the Bundesverband (VZBV) consumer center reports, around 4,500 people already support the class action against the sports streaming service. The background is allegedly inadmissible price increases that are said to have carried out DAZN in 2021 and 2022 – during ongoing contracts.
Until at least September 25, 2026, other consumers and small companies can join the lawsuit. This is possible via an entry in the association’s register of lawsuits at the Federal Office of Justice. The first oral hearing before the Hamm Higher Regional Court is scheduled for September 4, 2026 (file number: I-12 VKL 1/24).
DAZN shows, among other things, games of the Bundesliga and the Champions League. The VZBV accuses the provider of increasing prices during existing contracts without consent. In the summer of 2022, the monthly price for existing customers was raised from 14.99 to EUR 29.99.
Consumer advocates consider the clause for price adjustment in the contracts for non -transparent and thus ineffective. Last year, the VZBV therefore submitted an action for association against the DAZN Limited, based in London.
DAZN Germany boss Alice Mascia rejected the accusation of arbitrariness. The “Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung” she said: “The price increases were not arbitrary.” The offer was significantly expanded in a short time-for example by acquiring a third of the Bundesliga rights and the majority of the Champions League games.
