Sports psychologist helped Marc Oliver Kempf after Hertha BSC change

Came from VfB in January

After his transfer from VfB Stuttgart to Hertha BSC, Marc Oliver Kempf sought the help of a sports psychologist. The 27-year-old central defender explained in an interview with the “Daily Mirror”, having experienced “a tough first six months in Berlin”, which is why this option was “exactly the right decision”. The left foot came to the capital from Stuttgart in January 2022 for 500,000 euros and almost got relegated to the second division with the club. So far he has 25 missions to his name.

“For us as a family, things went haywire too, with the search for a flat, the move, the new surroundings,” said Kempf, “when things are going as modestly in terms of football as they have been, it becomes even more complicated. Because you take your mood home with you from the job.” In addition, a corona infection bothered him in February. “It all pushed me in a bit of a negative direction.”

The support of the sports psychologist “did the defensive man good”. Kempf recognized the positive aspects of this collaboration and viewed it as “more of an accompaniment that helps you to recognize: what makes you special? What makes you strong?”. He can now process mistakes better, which is also helpful in bad phases.
