At the weekend, the derby between Hanover and Braunschweig is in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the run -up to the two rivals, the two rivals already met elsewhere.
The Lower Saxony Sender between Hannover 96 and Eintracht Braunschweig (Sunday, 1.30 p.m. in the live ticker at T-Online) electrifies the fans-not only in the stadium. Shortly before the meetings of the two rivals, pastors, pastors, deacons from both cities were already competing against each other. The game was played on a small soccer field in the middle of the Lutherkirche in Hanover. The two second division teams made the right jerseys available.
Hanover’s sports pastor Peti Schmidt emphasized how much he is looking forward to the duel: “As football fans, we are looking forward to the most important game of the year for us.” For him, the derby on the square is “the most beautiful for the football heart”.
But the special game in the church had a deeper meaning. The church representatives wanted to set an example – against the sometimes heated rivalry and against riots that have been accompanying the derby for years.
For security reasons, the Braunschweig fan block in the stadium in Hanover on Sunday (1.30 p.m./Sky) will only be busy. Schmidt made it clear: “For us, riots next to the square are not part of it. All people and all clubs are the same for God. To symbolize this, there is no better place than a house of God.”
