The municipality receives many applications for large projects in recent times. She first wants to deliver a clear vision for them permits so that they do not come at the expense of the quality of life.
“The expectation for Helkijn is that the number of inhabitants will fall,” says general director Wout Lefebvre of the municipality of Spiere-Helkijn. “A study shows that it will fall by 7.8% by 2040. And that also ensures that if there is an oversupply to homes that it is no longer in proportion to the quality of life, the available greenery, trade, the parking space and the like. So yes: we have to intervene.”
