Spicy contract detail: Haaland at Manchester City only as a stopover?

Erling Haaland is leaving BVB for Manchester City after two and a half years. Despite the five-year contract, it is by no means certain whether the Norwegian will stay in England for as long.

Erling Haaland has a clear career plan: After his professional debut in Norway for Molde FK and a year at RB Salzburg in Austria, the striker decided to switch to Borussia Dortmund in January 2020. The Revierklub has also gained an excellent international reputation as a training club.

At BVB, it was clear from the start that Haaland was only a guest as a stopover. In order to convince the 21-year-old to transfer to the Ruhr area two and a half years ago, the club had to give him an exit clause. For their part, the Dortmunders were able to free Haaland from Salzburg for the fixed sum of 20 million euros.

Now Manchester City made use of an exit clause, according to English reports it is lower than previously assumed at 60 million euros. So far, the German media has talked about 75 million euros.

Raiola is said to have negotiated a release clause

As “picture” reported, but the Citizens could not avoid giving Haaland a clause for an early departure. According to this, it will take effect in two years. The recently deceased player advisor Mino Raiola is said to have negotiated that contract detail with the English. The alleged price for Haaland in the summer of 2024 : 150 million euros.

That exit clause is explosive, especially given that Haaland is said to have flirted with a move to Real Madrid until his signature in Manchester. According to Spanish reports, Los Blancos ultimately refrained from making a commitment.

In Karim Benzema, who has a contract until 2023, the Spanish champions already have a world-class striker. In Kylian Mbappé, a second superstar is to be added for the offensive in the summer.

It is therefore possible that Haaland will keep a later move to Spain open thanks to the exit clause. First of all, he will start his five-year contract with Manchester City on July 1st. The north west club are reportedly making the centre-forward their new top earner.
