Speed ​​skating: ex-national coach Markus Eicher died – speed skating – winter sports

The association announced this on Tuesday (03/14/2022). During his time as national coach (1996-2014), Eicher formed Anni Friesinger-Postma and Stephanie Beckert into Olympic champions.

Born in Inzell, Eicher won the national all-around title in 1976 and 1977, and from 1985 he acted as a base trainer. For health reasons, Eicher made his position as national coach available after the 2014 Olympic Games.

“DESG mourns the loss of a great sportsman who was passionate about the development of German speed skating”, the association wrote in a statement. Under Eicher, Friesinger-Postma won three Olympic gold medals and 16 world championship titles. Beckert secured one Olympic gold and two silvers under him.
