Local residents are responsible for the illegal removal of two speed bumps on the Eekhoutswijk near Smilde. The municipality of Midden-Drenthe announced this.

The thresholds were placed to improve road safety on the rural road. The Eekhoutswijk connects the village of Smilde with the hair, along which the TT Circuit is located. In April the thresholds suddenly appeared to have disappeared, on which the municipality reported.

“They have been removed by residents. There has been a conversation with these people,” said a spokesperson for the municipality. And with that the stocking is finished, although Midden-Drenthe would have preferred it differently. “We regret that the police have decided not to take any further action in response to the report, but the decision on this lies with the police.”

A police spokesperson reports that the necessity is missing for further steps. “We are familiar with this situation. We have been there. This has not given rise to a further investigation.”

The municipality has new thresholds installed on the Eekhoutswijk. “For that we have consulted with representatives of local residents and farmers,” says the municipal spokesman. There will also be three passing ports. These are alternators for agricultural vehicles, so that it can pass the faster moving traffic faster.

“We will soon determine where the thresholds and the passing ports should be, in collaboration with the residents. These thresholds have a speed -inhibiting effect and contribute to the improvement of road safety,” the municipality said. The thresholds are permanent.
