Michael Greis and Martina Beck were among the most successful German biathlon stars in the 2000s and 2010s. For their great success, the two show athletes of the DSV have now been given a special award.
The now 48-year-old Greis and the 45-year-old Beck were included in the International Hall of Fame by the IBU Biathlon Association.
This year they share this special honor with the Norwegian Liv Grete Skjelbred, as the IBU’s executive board announced on Friday. In its active career, the biathlon trio won a total of ten Olympic medals, 37 World Cup medals and 155 World Cup podium.
IBU President Olle Dahlin said about the selection of the association on Friday: “We are very proud to welcome three well-deserved athletes in the IBU Hall of Fame.”
The trio had shaped the biathlon sport “sustainably and not only inspired the people in their country, but all over the world. Their legacy goes beyond the countless medals they have won, and their contributions are celebrated and as members of the fame hall Forever, a part of the biathlon history, ”Dahlin continued.
Greis was three times the Olympic champion in Turin
Michael Greis was one of the superstars of the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin when he won three gold medals in the individual start, in the mass start and in the season. The Füssener also won three gold, three times silver and six bronze at biathlon world championships before retiring from active competitive sports in 2012.
Beck, born in 2015, became a persecution world champion in 2003 and won two more World Cup titles with the relay. At the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin, she finished second three times, and four years later won bronze with the relay in Vancouver.
