“Honestly, I don’t know how it happened,” the 25-year-old is said to have said, according to Sovetsky Sport. “It wasn’t intentional. The trophy was really heavy. I don’t think I’m strong enough to hold it, it just happened that way.” In videos from the club you can see how the team celebrated in the dressing room with the two halves of the cup.
For Spartak Moscow it was their fifth success in the competition, meaning they should actually retain the trophy permanently. Now in a very special version. If you take into account the victories in the Soviet Cup, Spartak is the record cup winner in Russia.
