During the cup victory celebrations, a Spartak Moscow player involuntarily becomes the center of attention.
Historic success with a bitter aftertaste for Spartak Moscow: After winning the cup 5-4 on penalties against Kuban Krasnodar, the trophy was broken while celebrating. The Russian top club also published pictures and videos of the event on its social media channels.
What had happened? It was actually a harmless scene, as is usual after every cup success. Moscow’s Pablo Solari stood with the trophy in front of his own fans and wanted to raise the trophy into the sky several times. But after his first attempt, the cup broke in half, the base hit the floor, and there were shards of glass everywhere. The Argentinean looked visibly confused and couldn’t help but grin broadly.

“Honestly, I don’t know how it happened,” the 25-year-old is said to have said, according to Sovetsky Sport. “It wasn’t intentional. The trophy was really heavy. I don’t think I’m strong enough to hold it, it just happened that way.” In videos from the club you can see how the team celebrated in the dressing room with the two halves of the cup.
For Spartak Moscow it was their fifth success in the competition, meaning they should actually retain the trophy permanently. Now in a very special version. If you take into account the victories in the Soviet Cup, Spartak is the record cup winner in Russia.
