Sparta wants to move on and opens talks with former Feyenoord player Jean-Paul Boëtius | Dutch football

Sparta hopes to add Jean-Paul Boëtius (29) to the selection in the short term. The attacking midfielder and winger has been maintaining his fitness at Spangen for some time, but is now actually in discussions with the Kasteelclub about the future. Technical director Gerard Nijkamp confirms this.

The former Feyenoord player recently played for an hour in a practice match of Jong Sparta. He has been maintaining his fitness for some time at Sparta, which from the start took into account a scenario in which a contract with Boëtius would eventually become negotiable.

Sparta is understaffed, especially on the flanks, also due to the injury of Koki Saito. Boëtius broke through as a winger, but gradually developed into a midfielder in the Bundesliga. The single international prefers to play in one of the three positions in midfield. He talks to Sparta about that wish, among other things.

Boëtius broke through in De Kuip at Feyenoord, where he scored on his debut in the Classic against Ajax. After three years ‘in the South’, the attacker left for FC Basel, which rented him out to Genk for a while. Boëtius then returned to Feyenoord, but that was only for a year. In 2018, Boëtius started a German adventure, first at Mainz (three years) and then at Hertha BSC.

The one-time international was diagnosed with testicular cancer at the latter club, for which he was successfully operated on. Boëtius rejoined Hertha, which was eventually relegated from the Bundesliga. As a result, Boëtius’ ongoing contract was terminated. Since then, the Rotterdammer has been transfer-free and awaiting a new adventure, after various options failed last summer for various reasons.
