Spanish residences are “prepared” and “without alarm” for the covid explosion in China

dependency employers have ensured that the Spanish residences when they are older “ready” to deal with the covid, after the explosion of cases in China, although they have requested “do not create alarm” because they trust in the protection of the vaccination and in the measures that have not ceased to apply, such as the use of the mask.

“We are prepared, doing things well, so that there are no more cases,” underlined the president of the Círculo Empresarial de Atención a Personas (CEAPs), Cinta Pascual, while adding that “the important thing is do not create alarm” and continue working in line with what they have done so far.

As the president of the Business Federation of the Dependency (FED), Ignacio Fernández-Cid, has pointed out, what they are asking of them is that review contingency plans and check that they are perfectly supplied with epi material, in case there is an increase in cases.

Even so, he has specified that “There is no greater incidence” in residential centers, but rather that what is produced is “some isolated case” and with a low degree of virulence. This is, according to the employers’ associations, thanks to the high vaccination rate among older people living in residences.

“96% of residents, throughout Spain, are covered with the fourth dose, you never have to say that it is enough, you have to try to reach 100% but there is a high percentage immunized against the strains we know”, added the general secretary of the Association of Service Companies for Dependency (AESTE), Jesús Cubero.

More fourth doses

In this sense, the president of CEAPs has called for all professionals in residential centers and family members to vaccinate with the fourth dose. “It’s the only one reliable system: vaccination, vaccination and vaccination”, has abounded Cinta Pascual.

What they do not want to happen again is that the elderly are isolated, as happened the first year of the pandemic. “The solution is not to lock up the elderly, because there are more infections outside than inside”, Pascual stressed, adding that this is “a red line” and that they are going to fight for the rights of residents to be respected.

In his opinion, what should be done is “be prudent” “sequence the cases that come” and “extreme precautions” in society to protect the most vulnerable people.

In this context, the residences will continue to apply their measures, such as the use of the mask, the hydroalcoholic gel, the control of the stock of epis and the revision of the protocols in case they have to be activated.

“What you have to do is be more attentive, they are not going to restrict visits but you do have to take a little extreme measures, be aware that we must not go back”, has highlighted the general secretary of AESTE.

Likewise, Cubero has highlighted that the figure of liaison geriatricians that was implemented with the pandemic has been reactivated and that it has now been resumed “to have support in case of any problem”.
