Spanish professional cyclist Jaume Guardeno is in intensive care after a serious training accident. According to media reports, the 23-year-old collided with a vehicle on Tuesday and was flown by helicopter to Tauli Hospital in Sabadell, a city near Barcelona.
His team Caja Rural-RGA confirmed the incident on Thursday. According to the team’s statement, Guardeno “remains in the intensive care unit with serious injuries.” The team assured their driver of their “full support”.
Spanish media report that Guardeno suffered a traumatic brain injury in the accident. Last week he took part in the Tour of Catalonia. Caja Rural-RGA will be a guest team at the upcoming Tour de France.
