The Christmas vacation ends in tragedy for football coach Fernando Martín and his family. His club is “deeply affected”.

A serious boat accident off the coast of Indonesia has claimed the lives of Fernando Martín, coach of Valencia FC’s women’s second team, and three of his children. They were traveling with a tour group near the popular holiday destination of Labuan Bajo when the tour boat capsized in rough conditions.

In addition to the Martín family, there were eleven other people on board. A total of seven people, including four crew members, a tour guide and Martín’s wife and their seven-year-old daughter, were rescued alive.

In a statement, the association said it was “deeply affected” by the accident in Indonesia. “The club would like to express its sympathy and support to the family, friends and colleagues (…) during this difficult time for everyone,” it continued.
