A black evening for Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappé. After the star’s miss and the defeat against Liverpool, criticism of the “Royal” is increasing.

After another painful mistake, including a costly miss by Kylian Mbappé, the Spanish media clearly criticized the Champions League defending champions Real Madrid.

“Neither Madrid nor Mbappé,” headlined the “AS” after the 0-2 (0-0) defeat of the “Royal”; there is hardly anything to be seen of their previous strength at the moment: “A black evening for the Whites and for Mbappé, who missed a penalty and acted clumsily.”

Mbappé missed the possible equalizer from the point (61st) after Alexis MacAllister’s lead goal (52nd minute). Instead, Cody Gakpo increased (76th) and helped Liverpool defend their lead in the table with a perfect haul of five wins.

At Real, however, things look comparatively bleak. In view of the fall to 24th place in the new mode of the Champions League, “Marca” wrote about the “harsh reality in Madrid”. At the beginning of June, coach Carlo Ancelotti was beaming with his professionals after the final win against Borussia Dortmund (2-0) – now the second-placed team in the Spanish league has to fight for a place in the round of 16. Real’s next appearance in the Champions League will be at Atalanta Bergamo on December 10th.
