A few months ago, Luciano Spalletti turned his back on the Italian national team. Now he is joining Juventus. He has a tattoo from another club.
Luciano Spalletti takes over as head coach at Italian record champions Juventus Turin. The 66-year-old signs a contract until the end of the season, succeeding Igor Tudor, who was released on Monday.
“We are very pleased to welcome such a competent and experienced personality into the Juventus family,” the club announced on Thursday evening. Juve had only ended a long negative series on Wednesday evening. After eight games without a win, the team won against Udinese Calcio 3-1 and secured their first three-pointer in almost seven weeks. The “Old Lady” is currently only in seventh place in the Serie A table.
Tudor, himself a former professional at Juventus, had only been in office for seven months. After four games without a goal and three competitive defeats in a row, the Croatian had to vacate his post.
Spalletti was Italy’s national coach until five months ago, but had terminated his contract with the association. At club level, he celebrated his greatest success to date in the 2022/23 season when he led SSC Napoli to their first championship in 33 years.
Spicy: After winning the title, Spalletti got a tattoo of his former club. The SSC Napoli logo is emblazoned on his forearm, including the Italian flag in a coat of arms with the number three. The championship that Spalletti won with the club was the third in the club’s history.
Naples and Juventus fought thrilling duels for the championship in Italy, especially in the 2010s, always with the team from Turin coming out on top. However, since the 2020 triumph, Juventus has not been able to win a championship title. Naples again became champions twice (2023 and 2025).
