The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has condemned Russia’s actions in the conflict with Ukraine, after recognizing and sending troops to the pro-Russian republics of Donbas and Luhansk, and has promised joint action within the framework of the NATO.
The Government of Spain condemns Russia’s unilateral recognition of the separatist territories in eastern Ukraine. It is a violation of the Minsk agreements and international law.

Previously, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, EU and Cooperation, José Manuel Albares, had also criticized Russia’s recognition of the self-proclaimed Ukrainian provinces in 2014 with the support of Moscow, and has assured that Spain will respond “in close coordination” with its partners before a “flagrant violation”.
“Russian recognition of the separatist territories in eastern Ukraine is a flagrant violation of Ukraine’s territorial integrity, the Minsk agreements and international legality. We will respond in close coordination with our partners,” Albares reported.
