Two professional assignments
Southampton FC have signed midfield talent Roméo Lavia (18) from Manchester City’s U23. The Saints announced on Wednesday that the defender had signed a contract until 2027. Lavia, who was used twice by the Citizens pros, costs £10m (€11.7m) according to the BBC. The Belgian U21 international is thus the most expensive signing up to the age of 18 at Southampton FC.
Lavia moved from RSC Anderlecht to Man City in 2020, where he recommended himself to the professionals via the U18s and U23s. He was mainly used for the reserve and played a total of 39 games in which he contributed two goals and four assists. Last winter, the right foot was presented in more detail in the Transfermarkt talent calendar.
“He has what Pep Guardiola is looking for. Normally you only have a one in a million chance as a young player to make an instant breakthrough at Manchester City, but Lavia can do it. He’s such a special talent,” said Vincent Kompany about the youngster. For him, the move to Southampton is his first in the men’s division.
