Sony Pictures shows first excerpt of the Ridley Scott epic at CinemaCon

Sony Pictures CEO Tom Rothmann screened an excerpt from Ridley Scott’s Napoleon at this year’s CinemaCon in Las Vegas on Monday (April 24). The epic, starring Joaquin Phoenix, hits theaters on November 22nd.

The detail shows the French ruler played by Phoenix and his troops before and during a battle. “Let them think they have the advantage of height,” the Emperor swears to his men before his opponents have to make an unfortunate retreat.

“The film is literally screaming for the big screen,” promised Rothmann and then spoke about the 85-year-old director: “He [Ridley Scott] can do things on film that few, if any, filmmakers half his age can do.” After Sony’s historical drama is released in theaters, it will be available on Apple TV+. From when has not yet been announced. “The film will be released on Thanksgiving with a big theatrical schedule and strong marketing campaign before coming to Apple TV+,” Rothmann said.

Alongside Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby embodies Joséphine, the wife of the Emperor of France. Tahar Rahim also plays the politician Paul Barras. The epic is not the only film adaptation about Napoleon. Cary Joji Fukunaga is in preparation for an HBO series of the same name about Napoleon Bonaparte.

The Cinema Convention 2023 runs until April 27th, with more films being presented. These include “The Flash” announced for June 16 and the Stephen King horror film “The Boogeyman”, which will be shown in German cinemas from June 1st.
