Country singer Bonnie Raitt provided one of the surprises at this year’s Grammys. She won the award in the main category “Song of the Year” for her song “Just Like That” about a heart transplant. She asserts herself against strong competition. Among others, “About Damn Time” by Lizzo, “Break My Soul” by Beyoncé, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)” by Taylor Swift, “Heart Part 5” by Kendrick Lamar and “As It Was” by Harry Styles nominated.

In her acceptance speech, the 73-year-old, who was visibly surprised by the honor, paid tribute to country singer John Prine, who died in 2020, and also used the platform to thank organ donors. Her song also won in the Best Americana Roots Song category. The album of the same name, Just Like That, won Best Americana Album, and the album’s first track, Made Up Mind, won the Best Americana Performance category.

Raitt assisted Mick Fleetwood and Sheryl Crow in the “In Memoriam” performance for Christine McVie, who passed away in 2022, during the live show. The British tabloid press treated Raitt somewhat stupidly, referred to her as an “unknown blues singer.”
