The Barcelona festival unveils its entire line-up with the return to the stages of the enigmatic electronic genius and the great return of the Catalan artist as main dishes
Sónar will blow out 30 candles this summer and has announced all the actors for its party after a first preview of names. The advanced music festival has unveiled the pComplete program of this special edition that will be held from June 15 to 17 in Barcelona (in its traditional venues at the Fira de Montjuïc and Fira de Gran Via). Sónar has announced names of impact today, headed by the return to the stage after four years of absence of the cult artist Aphex Twin. The enigmatic genius of electronics, the Irishman Richard David James, returns to the Barcelona festival after 12 years with a new audiovisual show that he will present on the night of June 16. Sónar, which will have more than 100 performances (47 revealed today), had hinted (in an inconspicuous way, let’s say) this return on its social networks in recent days.
The festival has also announced the return of Bad Gyal, which has just filled the Palau Sant Jordi for the first time and will do the same at the Wizink Center in Madrid this Friday. Regarding the Catalan, it is known that this year he will publish ‘La joia’, his debut album after two ‘mixtapes’ and an EP, although the release date is unknown for now. Sónar programmed the artist from Vilassar de Mar at the beginning of it, in 2017, later, in 2019, she returned as a consolidated troublemaker through perreo and now she does so as a star without borders or limits. Speaking of the artist from Madrid, her great collaborator, the great producer from Castelldefels Alizzz, now focused on his solo career, will perform at Sónar with a special DJ set called ‘Club 2000’ and designed for the festival’s 30th anniversary.

More names that complete the poster. The Barcelona festival will present on Saturday 17 the Eric Prydz’s HOLO show, “The most powerful immersive audiovisual ‘show’ of the moment worldwide”, promises Sónar. Also the masterful British rapper Little Simz will perform on Saturday night. Another of the contest’s new bets is the house session by the South African DJ and producer Black Coffee during the day. All of them join the already announced birthday candles: BICEP live, Fever Ray, Amelie Lens, Peggy Gou, The Blessed Madonna, Solomun, Laurent Garnier, Richie Hawtin…
The night of Saturday June 17 will also bring together Spanish talent: Samantha Hudson will repeat at the festival presenting her new show ‘EVOO Black Label’; La Zowi will show its new ‘show’ ‘La Reina del Sur’ by La Zowi; and Orslok will present her new album, among others. During the day (Thursday, Friday and Saturday) other urban diamonds in Spanish will also have their space, such as Sitcky MA, Leïtiy, KYNE or the unprecedented combination Kitty110-LaBlackie-L’Beel. And another presence of local talent, the avant-garde pop artist Marina Herlop.
