Sem van Dijk, Wendy van Dijk’s son, does not understand at all that he is known as spoiled and arrogant. He doesn’t see himself that way at all. “That does something to you.”

Sem van Dijk’s musical act is completely unbelievable. With his rap songs he always pretends to be one of a kind ghetto grew up. As if he comes from a very difficult neighborhood and lived on the street. Of course it’s very funny, because Sem grew up in an incredibly privileged, rich family in Nigtevecht. Not exactly a ghetto after all.

Canta for Sem

The moment when Wendy filmed for her Instagram page how she gave her son Sem a kind of Canta car as a gift will probably haunt him forever. “A while ago Sem really wanted Louboutins, but I’m really not going to buy 700 euro shoes, are you completely crazy,” dad Xander de Buisonjé revealed a while later.

Why did Dad have to buy that? Because Sem’s music doesn’t exactly appeal. He is not a crowd favorite, to say the least. And he finds that very unfortunate.

Not arrogant

Sem says he often has to deal with prejudices. “People say, for example, that I am spoiled, that I come from a golden family or that I feel better than others. Sometimes I find it difficult to hear that about myself. I just try to do my best and I don’t feel better than the rest at all,” he says in Weekend.

He does find his rap songs credible, because he does have a tough life. “I’m only 22 years old, but I’ve already been through a lot. When you, as a teenager, hear opinions about yourself like: what an arrogant, spoiled kid, without them knowing you, it does something to you.”

Three friends

According to Sem, the critics don’t know what they are talking about. “Maybe I am spoiled and I am better off than other people, but I am certainly not arrogant. I have already lost three friends in my life. And my sister Lizzy has been seriously ill, which has worried me a lot. I think that is quite a lot for someone of 22.”

“But that ultimately brought me something in life, so I am mentally strong. I also try to be good to other people, because I have seen how quickly life can be over. I think you should not worry about things that don’t really matter, just enjoy life.”
