sombr is going on tour – with Interpol, Dove Cameron and The Last Dinner Party as support acts. Why his line-up surprises the music world.
sombr announced his “You are the Reason” tour on Monday, April 13th. From July, the indie pop musician will be touring North America – and will not be playing the concerts alone. For his second big tour, the singer, who until recently was an unknown in the music scene, has some big bands and artists on the line. To the surprise of some. After all, sombr only really became internationally famous in the summer of 2025.
The 20-year-old New Yorker made a name for himself through viral Internet hits like “Back to Friends” and “Undressed” – a real Gen Z star. His fan base grew overnight. He was nominated for a Grammy for Best New Artist 2026 and won the MTV Video Music Award and the iHeartRadio Music Award for Best Newcomer in 2025. His songs are characterized by melancholic lyrics about love and loss; his first song “Back to Friends” has been streamed over a billion times on Spotify.
Industry Plant and Nepo Baby?
Despite his fame, he is often accused of being an “industry plant” and a “nepo baby”. sombr, real name Shane Boose, is the son of Bennah Serfaty and Andy Boose, who work as influential event managers for celebrity events. His parents’ company has already worked with charities for Elton John and Leonardo DiCaprio. He attended the prestigious LaGuardia High School, but dropped out to pursue music. Many are critical of his sudden popularity: Before his first hit, he was a complete unknown, but today he is one of the most famous pop stars of Gen Z.
An impressive support list
He can afford to have bands like Interpol, The Last Dinner Party, Balu Brigada and The Hellp as well as artists like Tom Odell, King Princess, Dove Cameron and Hannah Jadagu play as opening acts. A remarkable selection – some of them would be considered better known than sombr itself. At least that’s the reaction to the Voract line-up. “Interpol opening for sombr, sounds backwards lol, and only at one show – maybe it’ll be more of a co-headlining situation?”
Many doubt that sombr can still convince with his performance after these preliminary acts. “If all your openers are way better than you 🥶” and “Dude, if I was sombr I wouldn’t let any of these acts open for me. He’s so grossly overshadowed, I’d be totally embarrassed to be him and perform after these opening acts.” This is what is being discussed on Reddit and X.
Others note that Sombr’s young fan base is very different than that of many previous acts – which could be an advantage. “People who buy tickets for sombr probably have no idea who these acts are that are opening for him. A good band that you don’t know isn’t going to overshadow the artist whose songs you know.” And: “I mean, I respect that they’re up for taking on a support slot for a newer act. They’ll be playing to a different, younger crowd.”
Hope for a world tour
The supporting band is definitely impressive. Fans around the world can only hope that he brings as much reinforcement with him on a possible world tour. Most recently he was in Europe and played his “The Late Nights & Young Romance Tour” there. The lead act on his last tour was Charlotte Lawrence, a somewhat lesser-known singer.
Sombr has only released one well-known album so far, and many are wondering how he wants to go on such a big arena tour. He will probably release another album by then – he has already released a new song called “Homewrecker”.
Dates for a tour outside of North America have not yet been announced. However, the musician has already asked on his Instagram channel where he should perform next. Germany and the UK are in first place.
