Somas Activia completely disrupts the Visser Assen/Sudosa-Desto game

The volleyball players of Visser Assen/Sudosa-Desto were unable to compete against debutant Somas Activia and lost 3-1. A small revival in the third set provided hope, but a disastrous start in the next set quickly put an end to this

Coach Mark Afman’s team was unable to continue the good start to the season. The game of Sudosa-Desto was completely disrupted by the guests from Sint Anthonis. Diagonal player Paula Boonstra, who had scored by far the most points in the first two games, had a very difficult evening.

The blocking of the guests had completely focused on her, causing her to be frustrated every time. And if Boonstra does not score, the people of Assen will have a big problem, especially because the second points provider Manon Torenbeek is still sidelined injured.

Unparalleled saves Danique Hamming

Kirsten Wessels kept Sudosa-Desto in the attack for a long time in the opening set, while in the backfield captain and libero Danique Hamming made a number of unparalleled saves and fittingly took a lot.

But that was ultimately not enough to win the first set. Until 15-13 Sudosa-Desto led the dance, without really convincing. Something that the guests subsequently did more and more. After 25-22 in the opening set, Activia won the second set 25-20.

While the blocking and field defense functioned excellently for the debutant in the Premier League, it faltered with the Assen formation. Sudosa-Desto also had great difficulty in scoring offensively.

‘We will take the third set based on character’

In fact, everything pointed to a clear 3-0 defeat. Afman also thought that on the side. “We weren’t in the game for a moment. It didn’t work out playing volleyball, but we won the third set based on character and then you hope that something like that will be liberating and you can take another set.”

However, his team quickly fell behind 9-3 in the fourth set. A series of serves by Eline Mosselaar, one of the few times the guests got into trouble, gave Sudosa-Desto a glimmer of hope. She brought her team back to 9-7. But there was nothing more to it.

‘This was a very difficult match for us’

This was also the conclusion for newcomer Mare van Vliet, who made his debut in the starting line-up in the third set. “That was nice for me personally, but it was a very difficult match for us. No matter what we tried, we had the utmost difficulty to score.”

Van Vliet, who came over from the second team, did not expect to play an entire set now. “Everything I play this season is taken into account. This is really a learning year, that’s what I’ve been told, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t leave me wanting more.”

Afman tried to put a positive spin on the defeat. “Maybe this is a good lesson for us. Activia is difficult for my team to play, especially if we are not at one hundred percent.” Sudosa-Desto does not have much time to recover from this defeat. National champion VC Sneek is the opponent on Wednesday.

‘That’s a difficult list’

“We now have a series of matches against the top teams of the Premier League.” After VC Sneek, Apollo 8, Sliedrecht Sport and vv Utrecht await. “That is a difficult list. We have to be top to have a chance.”
