Soldeu giant: Shiffrin in the lead. Bassino 3ª, outside Brignone

The American is the fastest with a 62/100 advantage over Grenier and 63/100 over the blue

The specialty cup has already been taken and Mikaela Shiffrin has no intention of letting her guard down even in the giant of the finals which closes the 2022/23 World Cup today. The American is leading in 56”60 but Marta Bassino is in her wake, third at 63/100 from Shiffrin and just one cent from the Canadian Grenier. Nothing to do for Federica Brignone, who went out due to a mistake on a hump after setting the best time in the first intermediate stage. “I’m skiing well, I cared a lot. I’m really angry,” Brignone said. Vlhova and Hector also out on a track tested by the mild temperatures of these days.

The race

As is her style, Shiffrin descended without risk, never giving the impression of being on the edge. Thus she overcame the traps that put many opponents in difficulty and knocked out 5 of the 28 athletes at the start. Below the second behind remain the Polish Gasienica (at 65/100), the Norwegian Stjernesund (at 71/100) and the Ticino Lara Gut (at 80/100). At 1”05 is Tessa Worley.

The records

Shiffrin has dominated the giant this season with 6 successes in the 9 races held so far, the last 4 consecutive, to which we must add the gold medal at the Courchevel/Meribel World Championships.

The second heat is scheduled at 12.
