With “Unholy Affliction” Sophie Allison aka Soccer Mommy presents today (April 20th) the second single from her upcoming album SOMETIMES, FOREVER.

Their new album was produced by experimental and electronic musician Oneohtrix Point Never. The influence of Daniel Lopatin, as the producer is called, should be particularly evident on the new single. The track on which the 24-year-old sings about “unholy sorrow” in an innocent, calm voice is quite dark and unusually heavy for the indie pop singer.

Here you can hear the song:

Fans expressed surprise under the music video for the track: “I certainly wouldn’t have expected that from Sophie, but I like it,” writes a user. “The track is weird and at times pure dissonance, but in a fantastic way,” reads another comment. Others praised the “dark atmosphere” and the “new side” of the artist that the title shows.

The previous single “Shotgun” was released last month. The song “is about the joys of losing yourself in love,” Allison explained at the time. The aim of the title was “to capture the little moments in a relationship that you don’t forget.”

The complete album will be released on June 24th, and the singer and songwriter will also go on tour with it in the summer. She also makes stops in Germany and will play in Hamburg, Berlin, Bremen and Cologne in September.
