Soccer, 2nd Bundesliga: Hansa Rostock draws against 1. FC Nuremberg

Status: 09.11.2022 8:30 p.m

Even with a new coach, Hansa Rostock was unable to end its negative series in front of their own audience in the 2nd Bundesliga. After all, it was enough in the 1-1 (0-1) against 1. FC Nuremberg at least one point in the last second.

Hansa Rostock – in the narrow lower half of the table in the second division right in the middle of the fight for relegation – started at home in the Ostseestadion like a fire brigade. Apparently made really hot by the new coach. As is well known, the North Germans had fired coach Jens Härtel after last weekend and had a successor ready with former Mannheim player Patrick Glöckner.

Rocket launch of the Rostock

In any case, only two minutes had been played when Svante Ingelsson casually asserted himself on the left and ran all by himself towards the Nuremberg goal. FCN keeper Christian Mathenia had smelled his shot at the long corner from 14 meters – and parried strongly.

The atmosphere in Rostock could hardly have been better, after all Hansa seemed to have understood the seriousness of the situation.

Nuremberg countered ice cold to 0:1

But the hosts quickly lost track – and ran into the open knife of the guests from Franconia. Nuremberg’s Felix Lohkemper conquered the ball in midfield, passed across the center, where Fabian Nürnberger had enough time 23 meters in front of the goal to place the ball correctly on his right foot. His long-range shot landed slightly deflected – unstoppable for Hansa keeper Markus Kolke – in the lower right corner to make it 0:1.

Dis Baltic Sea townspeople were shocked – but caught themselves again after a few minutes. The game was now entertaining. The forward gear was engaged on both sides with a train, at the same time the actors reached quite well in the numerous duels.

Kolke saves Hansa from a higher deficit

It was battle-focused and intense – but there was only a real chance to score in the 41st minute. After a catastrophic pass from Rostock’s Damian Roßbach directly into Christoph Daferner’s foot on his own penalty area, the man from Nuremberg looked for a quick shot and aimed at the near corner from 15 meters on the right. But Kolke was wide awake and made a quick save.

Rostock presses on the gas after the break

In the second section, the Rostock team went one step further. Nürnerg was now put under pressure with merciless pressing – we were able to thank Mathenia in the 60th minute for keeping the lead. Roßbach’s header from seven yards out was sensationally scraped off the goal line by the keeper.

The next goal scream was on the lips of the fans in the 77th minute when Schumacher was able to pull free from 14 meters after a Hansa corner kick, but missed the goal by a hair’s breadth. And when John Verhoek, three minutes before the end of the game, also headed wide of the goal from eight meters, it happened – the next Rostock home defeat seemed a fact.

But then came the 90th minute and Nils Fröling. The Rostock midfielder plucked up courage after a corner kick was saved too short and thundered the ball into the net from 15 meters to make it 1-1.
