Snowy owl from ‘Harry Potter’ receives international protection: great hammerhead shark and striped hyena also on new list

Forty animal species will now receive extra international protection. This was decided on Sunday at a meeting of the International Convention for the Conservation of Migratory Species in Brazil. One of the most striking new names on the list is the snowy owl, known worldwide as Hedwig from the Harry Potter stories.
