A snowstorm swept across much of the northeastern United States overnight from Thursday to Friday (local time). It was almost impossible to get through on the track, schools were also paralyzed.
From the White House in Washington to states on the border with Canada, the snow was sometimes more than 30 centimeters thick. That was the case in Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island, among others, the weather website AccuWeather reported. Brooklyn Bridge and Times Square in the heart of New York looked like a postcard under the white snowdrifts. A rare silence reigned in the metropolis of 9 million inhabitants.
As a result of the storm, which has been dubbed ‘bomb cyclone’, some 830 flights were canceled in the region. In New York alone, LaGuardia airport canceled more than a third of scheduled flights. JFK reported on Twitter that 221 flights had been cancelled. A similar sound was heard at the Boston airport.
The snow will continue to fall until 10 p.m. local time (4 a.m. Belgian time), according to the American meteorological service NWS. In New York, the snowblowers set out in the early hours to clear the roads. “A blizzard isn’t going to stop us!” New York Post Mayor Eric Adams told the New York Post.
