Ettel still has to tremble after the second run
After the first of the two qualifying runs, Ettel was in ninth place. Her run was peppered with two double twists (720) and two one-and-a-half twists (540) performing various grabs. During their jumps, the athletes are sometimes more than four meters in the air, the walls of the halfpipe themselves are almost seven meters high. Ettel received a solid 68.75 points for her run.
After a fall in the second qualifying round, however, the third of the Junior World Championships in 2017 and 2019 had to tremble again. Of the eleven competitors who started after her, nine were behind her and therefore had the opportunity to overtake her. However, only two drivers were able to improve and thus push ahead of the Bavarian.
Ettel went into the qualification with the goal of getting a run to the finish line safely. Despite being very nervous at breakfast, she managed to do it on the first try and then wanted to attack again in the second round. In the final she now wants “go big. Then you get another cool show!“But she has another run with other tricks up her sleeve.
Favorite Kim again in front
The favorite secured victory in the qualification Chloe Kim from the USA, who received 87.75 points for her first run. The Pyeongchang gold medalist, who has won every competition in the halfpipe won, entered the final in first place with 87.75 points. When she won four years ago, Kim had topped with 98.25 points.
